The 23rd UNWTO General Assembly

On September 9–13, 23rd UNWTO General Assembly took place in Saint Petersburg.

UNWTO is an international organization that focuses on the support of enterprises working in the tourism industry. This event is organized with support from the United Nations and welcomes participants from some 150 countries. The key topics for discussion this year were global issues and development opportunities in the tourism industry, including medical and healthcare tourism, employee training, and implementation of sustainable and innovative technologies.

The Russian Federation became the host of the UNWTO General Assembly for the first time; the preparations, therefore, were of utmost importance. By using EMS1, all organization issues were resolved smoothly with the help of 50 modules for specific tasks:

  • in total, 6037 badges were issued;
  • 43,659 entries were processed by the access control system, with 41,197 of those via stationary devices, and the other 2462 via mobile devices;
  • 19 checkpoints were set up to control access to the venue;
  • 5005 letters were sent to the participants of the event.

The System once again proved its ability to handle high demand and a large number of attendees. The UNWTO General Assembly—an important event for both Russian and international tourism industries—was a success.
